Hygienist
With nearly four decades in the dental industry, Carlene is a dedicated and highly experienced Dental Hygienist. Since graduating from Adelaide in the 1980s, she has built an extensive work history having been employed by some of the most reputable and esteemed dental practitioners in Australia.
Throughout her career, Carlene has worked in a variety of specialist practices in Sydney, Canberra, and, most recently, Hobart, where she has been based for the past 14 years. Her experience spans general dentistry, orthodontics and prosthodontics, with many roles being concurrent. However, her passion for orthodontics has remained the constant focus throughout her career, making it her primary professional interest.
Carlene joined HSDC in 2021 and has remained at its current location following the retirement of Drs. Arneman and Chambers. Her continual presence at the practice, alongside other current staff members, helps bring familiarity to all patients—both returning and new—ensuring they receive the highest level of care in a comfortable, welcoming environment.
Over the course of her career, Carlene has been deeply involved in her professional association, holding several executive positions, including Secretary, Vice President, and President at both the state and national levels. She was also involved in the initial formation and inception of what became the Dental Hygienists Association of Australia, contributing significantly to the advancement and recognition of her profession.
Having finally achieved the luxury of semi-retirement, Carlene now enjoys the freedom and flexibility that comes with this lifestyle. Her time is filled with a love of nature, food, wine and travel (Tasmania being perfect for all the above), pottery, and a developing skill for quilting.
A new passion in her life is her recently adopted retired greyhound, who has proven to be both a joy and a challenge as she pours love into her new family member.
